Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos, maintained their impressive form at the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup after defeating Burkina Faso 2-0 on Monday.
The victory at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro ensured the Flamingos extended their unbeaten run and remained on course for the title.
Nigeria controlled much of the first half, enjoying the majority of possession and creating several scoring opportunities. However, Burkina Faso defended resolutely and managed to keep the Flamingos at bay.
Despite their dominance, the Nigerian girls were unable to find a breakthrough before halftime, with both teams heading into the break level at 0-0.
The Flamingos returned for the second half with renewed determination and continued to pile pressure on their opponents. Their persistence was eventually rewarded in the 82nd minute when Mary Dunstan broke the deadlock with a well-taken finish.
Burkina Faso attempted to fight back, but Nigeria remained in control and continued to threaten in attack.
The victory was sealed deep into stoppage time when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added a second goal, putting the result beyond doubt and securing another important win for the Flamingos.
The triumph takes Nigeria to nine points from three matches, maintaining a perfect record in the tournament. The Flamingos have now won all their games so far and remain firmly at the top of the standings.
With confidence growing and performances improving, the Nigerian side continues to strengthen its claim as one of the favourites to lift the 2026 WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup trophy.
The Flamingos will now shift focus to their next fixture as they look to extend their winning streak and move closer to continental success.
