Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, a former caretaker chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has called on President Bola Tinubu to distance himself from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Ihunwo made the call while criticising Wike’s continued involvement in Rivers State politics, arguing that the former governor should allow the people of the state to determine their political direction.
He also accused Wike, House of Representatives member O.K. Chinda, and their political allies of being “enemies of Rivers State,” claiming that they had been rejected by Rivers people.

“Wike has disgraced my people, for God’s sake,” Ihunwo said, accusing the FCT minister of bringing what he described as embarrassment to the Ikwerre people and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
He further urged Wike’s father to call him to order over his political activities.
Ihunwo also rejected the idea of Wike continuing to influence the state’s governance after completing his two-term tenure as governor.
“Wike cannot be governor by proxy,” he said, arguing that Rivers State was too large for one individual to control.
He consequently appealed to President Tinubu to reconsider his political relationship with Wike, saying the former Rivers governor should allow the people of the state to move forward.
Ihunwo’s latest comments come weeks after he publicly said he was supporting the Rainbow Coalition and President Tinubu’s 2027 bid, citing Governor Fubara’s call for reconciliation and political peace in the state.
