Gunmen Open Fire, Kill Father of Four in Abua/Odual

Gunmen have shot dead a father of four, identified as Kamadioye Krama, in Emulation Community, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 8pm on Friday, although the circumstances surrounding the killing remained unclear as of press time.

The deceased’s elder brother, Monday Krama, said Kamadioye had gone to the community where youths were preparing for the coronation ceremony of a stakeholder, identified as Mr ThankGod, when the gunmen suddenly opened fire.

Speaking to newsmen by telephone on Saturday, Krama said his brother had earlier returned from the farm and gone for a haircut before proceeding to the area where the youths were putting up canopies ahead of the ceremony.

He said, “I was in Port Harcourt when we heard about the killing of my brother. I am in the village now.

“From what I heard, he went to the farm. When he returned in the evening, he went to have his haircut. After cutting his hair, he went to the town where youths in the community were arranging canopies ahead of the coronation of a stakeholder in the community, Mr ThankGod.

“Suddenly, the gunmen came out of nowhere and started shooting. They shot him dead. That is what happened.”

Krama dismissed reports suggesting that the gathering where his brother was killed was politically motivated, insisting that Kamadioye was merely watching the youths prepare for the coronation ceremony.

“It was not a political gathering. My brother was just there, standing and watching as the youths were arranging canopies for the coronation of Mr ThankGod on Saturday,” he said.

He appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.

“All we are asking is justice. Let the police investigate the incident and ensure those behind my brother’s death are prosecuted,” he added.

Krama disclosed that the deceased was married and left behind four children.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of the Abua/Odual Police Division and his personnel reportedly visited the deceased’s family.

The family also confirmed that an official complaint had been lodged at the Abua/Odual Police Division.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was ongoing.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim and determine what led to the unfortunate incident.

“The command remains committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that appropriate action is taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” Agabe stated.
