Rivers United will return to Nigeria Premier Football League action on Wednesday, September 16, when they host Warri Wolves in a rescheduled Matchday 3 fixture at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The encounter was originally scheduled for September 12 but was postponed because of Rivers United’s involvement in the CAF Champions League.
The NPFL rescheduled the fixture to September 16 to give the club sufficient time to prepare for its continental engagement against San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire.
Rivers United went into the continental assignment after opening their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Plateau United on August 30.
Their CAF Champions League first-leg meeting with San Pedro ended 1-1 in Côte d’Ivoire, with Douglas Iyowuna scoring the equaliser for the Nigerian side.
The Port Harcourt club will now shift its attention back to domestic competition as it looks to maintain a positive start to the new NPFL season.

The rescheduled fixture provides Rivers United with an opportunity to add another three points to their tally and build momentum ahead of subsequent league matches.
Warri Wolves, meanwhile, will be hoping to cause an upset away from home. The newly promoted side began the campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Bendel Insurance and will be eager to secure a positive result against one of the league’s established teams.
The fixture will be played at 4 pm at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, according to the NPFL’s official fixtures listing.
Recent meetings between the two sides have produced closely contested encounters. Rivers United have won three of their last five recorded meetings with Warri Wolves, while the latter have claimed two victories. Their most recent meeting in April 2026 ended in a 2-0 victory for Warri Wolves.
With both teams seeking valuable points, Wednesday’s encounter promises to be a competitive contest as Rivers United aim to make home advantage count.
