The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee (CPC) to coordinate activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in the state.
Inaugurating the committee in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, said the body was constituted to effectively plan, coordinate and execute all approved programmes lined up for the anniversary celebration.
Wokoma emphasised the need for adequate and timely preparations, assuring that the state government would leave no stone unturned to ensure a successful and memorable commemoration of Nigeria’s independence.

He disclosed that activities for the anniversary would begin with a Juma’at Prayer Service on Friday, September 25, 2026, followed by an Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 27.
According to the SSG, the celebrations would culminate in a grand finale on Thursday, October 1, 2026, marking Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Wokoma commended security agencies as well as relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for their continued collaboration with the state government in ensuring peaceful and hitch-free celebrations over the years.
He charged members of the committee to deploy their experience, expertise and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities, stressing the importance of effective coordination to the success of the anniversary programmes.
The SSG expressed confidence that the committee would deliver on its mandate and contribute to a befitting celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Rivers State.
