An indefinite strike has been declared by the Student Union Government SUG, of the Niger Delta University NDU, in Bayelsa State, following the recent tuition fee hike.
Students of the institution marched round the campus to register their displeasure and demand an immediate reversal of the increased fees.
During a protest held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, SUG declared an indefinite strike, in direct response to the hike.
The SUG President, Comr. David Patrick Dauduokumor, charged students not to attend lectures and other academic activities until further notice.

He lamented that while some students are witnessing a raise from N110,000 to N319,000, other departments are now over N500,000.
Dauduokumor gave the assurance that “the union is firm in its stance that the new fees are non-negotiable and will maintain the strike until the university management addresses their concerns.
“The revised tuition fees, released this week, have imposed significant financial strain, with the Faculty of Arts witnessing an increase from N110,000 to N319,000, while other departments are now over N500,000.
“The SUG argues that these hikes are an unbearable burden on students and parents alike.”
The president further reaffirmed that the “union is committed to sustaining this strike action until their demands for fee reduction are met by the university authorities.”
