Teachers in Rivers State have been mobilised for a peaceful protest over deductions from their salaries allegedly made under the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) End-Well Scheme.
In a mobilisation notice issued to teachers, the organisers said deductions for the scheme had commenced despite what they described as widespread rejection of the initiative by teachers across the state.
The organisers further alleged that deductions began in July 2026 without the knowledge or consent of affected teachers, adding that teachers had endured unexplained salary deductions for too long.
The protest is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026, with participants expected to assemble at Isaac Boro Park, Mile 1, Port Harcourt, by 10:00 a.m. The organisers said the protesters would march peacefully to Government House.

Among the demands listed by the organisers are the immediate suspension of End-Well Scheme deductions, refund of deductions allegedly made without consent, payment of outstanding promotion arrears and greater transparency and accountability from NUT officials.
They also called for proper consultation with teachers before the introduction of future schemes, as well as the suspension and investigation of other alleged deductions that have been ongoing for years.
The organisers said the protest would not be held at the offices of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (RSUBEB) or Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board (RSSSSB), alleging that officials of the boards had collaborated with the NUT over the deductions.
Teachers were urged to come with cardboard and markers for peaceful placards and inscriptions and to conduct themselves with dignity, unity and lawfulness throughout the demonstration.
The organisers said the protest was aimed at ensuring that teachers’ concerns were heard and that their welfare was adequately protected.
