The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a formal, unreserved apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and the international community of tens of millions of football enthusiasts, for the Super Falcons’ failure to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The apology follows a grueling 1-0 defeat to 9-time African champions Cameroon within the continuing zone final of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The quarter-final exit ended Nigeria’s dream of extending their continental trophy record; however, it also robbed the group of an automatic ticket to the worldwide showpiece
In an official statement brought on behalf of the NFF Executive Committee, technical staff and the playing squad, the NFF Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Moosagusau, acknowledged the huge disappointment across the country.

“We recognize the deep disappointment this result has caused millions of Nigerians who passionately support and identify with the Super Falcons,” Gusau stated.
We absolutely regret that the party went into opposition with the hope of a glorious state and the great goodwill and financial backing of the federal government and were unable to deliver the predicted results at this stage,” Gusau said.
The association issued a specific apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pointing to its historic financial support and personal advocacy for sport in Nigeria.
The rendition highlighted how the President has in the past honoured the Super Falcons with nationwide honours, cash prizes and housing.
