Rivers United Promote Academy Star Sotonye Samuel to Senior Team‎

‎Rivers United have continued their commitment to youth development by promoting promising youngster Sotonye Samuel from the club’s academy to the senior team ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

‎The promotion is seen as a reward for Samuel’s impressive performances with the Rivers United Academy, where he consistently demonstrated technical ability, discipline, and maturity beyond his years.

Club officials believe the youngster has shown the qualities needed to compete at the highest level and contribute to the first team.

‎Samuel’s elevation comes as Rivers United intensify preparations for a demanding campaign that includes both domestic and continental competitions.

The Port Harcourt-based side, which finished among the top teams in the NPFL last season, is strengthening its squad with a blend of experienced signings and emerging talents from its youth ranks.

‎The decision to promote the academy graduate reflects the club’s long-term strategy of developing homegrown players capable of making an impact in the senior team.

Rivers United have invested significantly in their youth structure in recent years, with the academy serving as a pathway for talented players to progress into professional football.

‎Coaching staff are said to be impressed by Samuel’s work ethic, consistency, and willingness to learn. His promotion provides him with the opportunity to train alongside seasoned professionals, gain valuable experience, and compete for a place in the first-team squad.

‎For Samuel, the move marks a significant milestone in his football career and an opportunity to fulfil his dream of representing Rivers United at the highest level.

The youngster is expected to continue his development under the guidance of the club’s technical crew as he adapts to the demands of senior football.

‎Supporters will be eager to see the academy product in action when the new season begins, hoping he can become the latest homegrown talent to establish himself in the Rivers United first team while contributing to the club’s pursuit of success in the NPFL and on the continental stage.
