Rivers United Ranked amongst top 10 Nigeria’s Most Valuable NPFL Club

Rivers United have emerged as the most valuable club in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), according to the latest squad valuation released by Transfermarkt and highlighted by Soccernet.

The Port Harcourt-based side tops the rankings with an estimated squad value of €2.18 million, reflecting the club’s consistent investment in quality players and its growing stature in Nigerian football.

‎The ranking comes ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season, with clubs across the country strengthening their squads in pursuit of domestic success and continental qualification.

Rivers United narrowly edged former champions Rangers International, whose squad is valued at €2.16 million, to claim the top spot on the list.

‎According to the report, the combined market value of all 20 NPFL clubs stands at approximately €30.40 million, spread across 822 registered players with an average market value of €37,000.

The figures, based on Transfermarkt data, consider factors such as player age, recent performances, international experience and transfer potential when assessing squad values.

‎Rivers United’s position at the summit reflects the club’s impressive performances in recent seasons. The Pride of Rivers have consistently challenged for the NPFL title and remain one of Nigeria’s regular representatives in CAF inter-club competitions.

Under head coach Finidi George, the club has continued to reinforce its squad with strategic signings ahead of the new campaign.

‎Other clubs featured prominently in the valuation include Rangers International, Remo Stars, Enyimba, Ikorodu City, Kano Pillars and Abia Warriors, highlighting the increasing competitiveness of Nigeria’s top-flight league.

Abia Warriors completed the top 10 with a squad valuation of €1.62 million, a testament to the club’s steady growth and smart recruitment policy.

‎The report also noted that the NPFL has become increasingly competitive, with clubs investing more in player recruitment, youth development and infrastructure despite operating on relatively modest budgets compared to other African leagues.

These investments are gradually improving the league’s profile and attracting greater interest from scouts and football stakeholders.

‎As the countdown to the 2026/27 season continues, Rivers United will be eager to justify their status as the league’s most valuable club by challenging for the NPFL title and making a significant impact in the CAF Champions League.

With strengthened squads across the division, fans can expect another fiercely contested campaign in Nigeria’s premier football competition.
