Nigerian content creator and social media personality Emmanuel Obruste, known professionally as GehGeh, has denied reports that he recently married, attributing viral videos and photographs of the event to artificial intelligence manipulation.
The controversy began after footage surfaced on social media showing Obruste in traditional wedding attire alongside a woman, identified in reports as Mary, at a reported ceremony in Minna, Niger State.
The footage circulated widely, leading to public speculation regarding his personal relationships and previous public statements on marriage.
In a video statement addressing the reports, Obruste asserted that the media materials were generated using artificial intelligence tools by individuals seeking to misrepresent his marital status.
“Nothing wey Nigerian women never do take bring me down. Na AI. Una wan come edit me into marriage. I am now a married man. AI thank you for organizing marriage on my behalf,” Obruste stated.
The statement followed a previous social media post in which Obruste offered an alternative explanation, stating that he was attending the event on behalf of a relative residing abroad. In that post, he wrote in Pidgin: “So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?”
Addressing accusations of inconsistency regarding his public views on relationships, Obruste stated that he has never publicly advised his followers against marriage, challenging critics to provide video evidence to the contrary.
Some netizens accepted his explanation regarding the synthetic nature of the footage, while aothers questioned the claim, asserting that the media appears to show a physical event. Obruste has urged the public to exercise caution when assessing digital content due to technological advancements in media generation.
