The Eleme Local Government Area has begun urgent rehabilitation of its 11kV electricity distribution line in a determined bid to restore power to several communities plunged into darkness by infrastructure damage and vandalism.
Work commenced on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with the arrival of electric poles and other critical materials at the project sites, signalling the fulfilment of a pledge made by the Executive Chairman, Chief Hon. Obarilomate Ollor.
Communities worst hit by the outage include Alode, Alesa, Agbonchia, Ogale, Ebubu, and others. The crisis started after a natural disaster felled several electricity poles, with the situation aggravated when vandals took advantage of the delay by the power distribution company to further destroy vital installations.

Speaking on the intervention, Chief Obarilomate Ollor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending the blackout, stressing that a stable electricity supply remains central to his government’s efforts to improve the welfare of Eleme residents.
“We are determined to restore power to the affected communities,” the chairman said, adding that the council would step up sensitisation on timely payment of electricity bills while pursuing long-term strategies for reliable power supply across the local government area.
