Rivers United has captured exciting teenage prospect Shola Oladunjoye as a free agent in readiness for the 2026/27 campaign.
The midfielder has linked up with the Pride of Rivers after failing to reach new terms at the expiry of his contract with Sporting Lagos. Oladunjoye had a superb season at Sporting Lagos last term in the Nigeria National League (NNL), which did not go unnoticed by the scouting department at Rivers United and the Port Harcourt-based team did not delay in completing the signing.
The midfielder was instrumental in Sporting Lagos’ successful promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last term and could have easily been the best player at the team last term.
The arrival of Oladunjoye will further bolster the Rivers United squad, as Manager Finidi George looks to fortify his team in preparation for what is shaping to be an action-packed calendar with both domestic and continental competitions. For the wonder kid, moving to Rivers United, will also see him make his debut on the continent as Rivers United is the top seed from Nigeria in the CAF Champions League having won the NPFL qualifier last season.
The young midfielder will then look to be part of the Rivers United side that is tipped to compete for the league diadem as well as shine on the continental front. The team that is owned by Rivers State Government have been one of the busy clubs in the ongoing transfer window and have signed a lot of new players in many departments as part of preparations for the upcoming football season.
With pre-season training in progress, Oladunjoye will be desperate to convince the technical crew of his readiness for a spot in the team that has been reinforced in many positions to boost their chances in domestic and continental football.
Rivers United’s quest to secure one of the most talented young players in the country again signifies their desire to put together a formidable team that is capable of competing in all fronts, including the NPFL and the CAF Champions League.
