As part of efforts to groom young leaders, an eight-year-old pupil, Miss Success Edmond Fombo, on Tuesday June 23, 2026 temporarily took over as Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area.
The Executive Chairman, Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, stepped aside to allow the youngster assume office for 24 hours, alongside her Child Executive Council members.
Miss Fombo, a student of Tamvina International School, Bonny, was warmly received by the Council Chairman and senior officials upon arrival before she convened an emergency Executive Council meeting where Supervisors and top local government functionaries briefed her on the activities and ongoing programmes of various departments.
The young chairman engaged officials on issues affecting children and community development. She also toured several ongoing projects across the area to assess their progress.
At the meeting, Miss Fombo recommended the appointment of a Senior Special Adviser on Child Welfare and Protection Matters.
She further called for the establishment of a Child Welfare and Protection Committee (CWPC) in the LGA to strengthen policies focused on children.
The programme is part of efforts by the Bonny Local Government Council to inspire leadership in the younger generation and promote inclusive governance.
