Sadiq Umar is tinking about leaving Super Eagles, saying that his future with the Nigerian team is not clear.
The striker for Valencia stated this in an interview with Radio France International Hausa. He said he’s thinking about his options but hasn’t made up his mind yet.
Umar plans to think before saying anything.
He said:”I am thinking about retiring from the national team. I will make my decision when the new season starts.”
The 28-year-old also talked about Nigeria not qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He said it was a disappointment. and that the team should focus on challenges now.
Umar said, “I don’t know why we didn’t qualify. That’s in the past. We must focus on the World Cup, which is four years away.”
He also talked about not being in Super Eagles teams.
Umar said it’s because of competition for places, not issues.
He said: “I wasn’t selected, Maybe I don’t fit what they need. There are players doing well in the team. Nigeria has good players.”
Umar also said that age is not the reason he’s thinking about retiring, that he wants to make a decision that helps him play well and have a career.
For now Umar is focused on the season. He will decide on his future in the coming months.
