Residents laments over INEC inadequate registration facilities

Some Electorates in Port Harcourt local government council say machines used by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC are not adequate for the ongoing registration and collection of the permanent voter’s card.

They said the hours they spent just for the registration is something not to experience. Speaking, one Mr Barinada who left his place of work today just to do his registration, narrated how he got to INEC office at the CFC bus stop axis of Port Harcourt at about 6 am today and could not register.

He said INEC is making the process cumbersome and wondered why such INEC office will have only four computer systems knowing the magnitude of people that come for registrations and collections. Mr. Barinada said the federal government does not consider the plight of the people.

“Since morning I dey here. I leave work today to come here but see wetin we dey see na so Nigeria government dey suffer people”

Some of the electorates told our correspondent that the process of collection is cumbersome while some also accused some INEC staff of collecting money from them before they are given their cards.

On his part, a political analyst in Port Harcourt Dr. KENNETH NWEKE advised that the process of registration and collection should be regular and ongoing.

He said the registration should be like getting your driver’s license.

“It is not every time that election is here that the government will start calling on residents to get their PVC rather it should be a continuous process.”

He added that the issue of stress and all unnecessary complaints should be cut out and addressed.

You will recall that INEC has extended the closing date of registration from the 17th of August to the 31st of August.
