The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an improved Med Safety Digital App to help Nigerians report fake and substandard medicines, as well as adverse drug reactions.
In a statement released by the agency on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, NAFDAC said the app is designed for healthcare professionals and members of the public to report suspected unsafe medicines quickly and securely.
The agency said the platform is part of efforts to strengthen post-marketing surveillance and encourage public participation in monitoring the safety of medical products in circulation.
It warned that substandard and falsified medicines remain a serious public health challenge, contributing to treatment failure, prolonged illness, and avoidable deaths.
According to NAFDAC, the upgraded app has been redesigned to make reporting easier, with a simplified interface and improved data submission tools.
Users can upload details and images of suspected products, including medicines with fake or missing registration numbers, altered expiry dates, poor packaging, or unexpected reactions after use.
The agency added that reports submitted through the app will help speed up the detection of unsafe products and support regulatory action to remove them from circulation.
NAFDAC urged healthcare workers, pharmacists, nurses, patent medicine vendors, and members of the public to actively use the platform to strengthen drug safety monitoring in the country.
The agency said greater public participation will improve early detection of harmful products and support its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines available to Nigerians.
