Nigerian music stars Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake have once again earned international recognition after securing nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, a development that continues to reflect the global rise of Afrobeats and African music.
The nomination list, released on the official BET Awards website, featured the Nigerian artistes in several major categories ahead of this year’s ceremony.
Tems emerged as one of the most nominated African artistes this year with three nominations. She received recognition in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category, earned a BET Her Award nomination for her song “First,” and also picked up a Viewers’ Choice nomination for “Raindance,” her collaboration with British rapper Dave.
Burna Boy also secured a nomination in the Best Collaboration category for “WGFT,” his feature on a track by American rapper Gunna. Over the years, Burna Boy has remained one of Africa’s most recognised names internationally, consistently earning nominations and awards across major global platforms.
Wizkid and Asake were jointly nominated in the Best Group category following their recent collaborations and strong presence on the international music scene. Their nomination comes after a period of commercial success and growing global attention surrounding their music.
Outside music, stars of Nigerian heritage also received recognition in the acting categories. Actress Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo earned nominations for Best Actress, while Damson Idris received a nod in the Best Actor category.
The 2026 BET Awards is expected to hold on June 28 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, with comedian Druski set to become the youngest host in the history of the event.
