On very strong terms, the newly posted Assistant Inspector General of Police, in charge of zone 16 command, Mr Abubakar Zubairu, has vehemently warned police officers in Bayelsa and Rivers states to desist from extortion.
Zubairu explained that extortion, among other illegal and corrupt practices, if not completely stopped, could bring the name of the force to ridicule.
The AIG who spoke during his first operational visit to the headquarters of the Bayelsa State command in Yenagoa, urged officers and men of Bayelsa and Rivers to shun extortion and other corrupt acts capable of bringing the name of the force to disrepute.
He emphasized that “there is a need for discipline, professionalism, and dedication to duty. I want to strongly warn against acts of corruption and extortion, as such unethical practices undermine public trust and are inconsistent with the core values and ethics of the Nigerian police force.
“This is also to charge us to embrace proactive policing strategies through intelligence-led operations, visibility policing, community partnership, and prompt response to security concerns.”

Zubairu commended officers and men of the command for their sacrifices and resilience toward sustaining peace and security in Bayelsa State, and encouraged them to remain steadfast and professional.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, who received the Assistant Inspector General of police, congratulated him on his posting to the zone 16 headquarters.
He also expressed appreciation for the timely operational visit shortly after he assumed office, describing it as a demonstration of the AIG’s commitment to effective supervision and operational efficiency within the zone.
