The Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has again assured corps members posted to the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and safety.
The governor, Siminalayi Fubara, gave this reassurance on Friday, April 24, 2026, during the swearing in of 3665 corps members, comprising 1328 males and 2337 females for the 2026 Batch A Stream 11 orientation exercise of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC.
Fubara who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, who is also the Chairman of NYSC State Governing Board, commended the scheme’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers HIRD.
He described the HIRD programme as a veritable intervention in community healthcare delivery services.
According to the governor, the initiative has been positively impacting the lives of average Nigerians, mostly those in villages.
Speaking at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, the governor charged the corps members deployed to the state to make good use of the orientation exercise.
Fubara expressed delight over the increased population of corps members deployed to the state. According to him, “it is a reflection of the perception of parents and citizens who appreciate the peace, progress and good governance engineered by this administration.
“Let me assure you that this administration would not relent in it’s commitment to uplifting the lives of the graduate youths and leaders of tomorrow.
“Make the most use of the orientation course experiences to contribute optimally to nation building.”
In his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, described the corps members as “eager and willing to make indelible mark in nation building.”
He informed those present that the NYSC top management over the years has been intentional in exposing corps members to practical life changing experiences which has helped in transitioning them from the life of dependency to independence vital for their growth and development.
Oleghe thanked the governor for what he described as his superlative and superfluous support to the NYSC Scheme in the state.
He appealed for urgent action in executing the 1000 bed space hostel accommodation for male and female corps members at the camp to ease challenges faced due to increasing corps population deployed to the State.
The Oath of Allegiance was administered by Justice Florence Fiberesima, who represented the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
