The Nigerian National Football team is ready to defend their Unity Cup title in London next month, against Jamaica, Zimbabwe and India.
The super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle said he wants to add players to the team for the tournament and there are rumors that up to six NPFL players might be included.
The Super Eagles won the 2025 Unity Cup by beating Jamaica on penalties in the final. Jamaica will be back for the 2026 tournament while India and Zimbabwe will take the place of Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
European leagues will have just finished by the time the 2026 Unity Cup starts so Nigeria’s coach Eric Chelle said his team will have many players from the Nigerian Premier Football League.
Some reports say six NPFL players might make it to the team, including Ikorodu City’s Joseph Arumala, who currently has 12 goals, in the NPFL Golden Boot race.
Other players who might get called up are: Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United, Daddy Abdulrahman of El-Kanemi Warriors, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi and Godwin Obaje of Enugu Rangers, Sodiq Ismail of Remo Stars, Daniel “Papa” Mustapha of Niger Tornadoes
Coach Chelle has been watching these players closely as he prepares the team for the 2026 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
