Super Eagles players Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were allegedly ambushed by approximately 50 Sevilla fans following their loss to the last-placed Real Oviedo on Sunday.
Sevilla FC experienced their 15th defeat of the season, succumbing to a disappointing 1–0 loss at the Carlos Tartiere.
This match was one where Los Nervionenses were anticipated to at least secure a draw, considering Oviedo’s difficulties this season. Nevertheless, they ultimately failed to meet expectations.
The defeat represented their third consecutive loss, leaving them merely two points above the relegation zone. With only eight matches left, Sevilla faces a considerable risk of being relegated from the Spanish top division for the first time since the 1999/2000 season.
The club’s fans seem to be responding strongly to this potential outcome. As reported by L’Équipe, around 50 masked supporters confronted the players, including Adams and Ejuke, upon their return to the training facility.
”These irate fans obstructed the entrance to the facility, hurling insults at both the players and staff. It required the intervention of security personnel to ensure the players’ safety and to de-escalate the situation,” the report stated.
”Super Eagles players Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were caught in the midst of the incident, but fortunately, they and their teammates emerged unharmed.”
Adams has been Sevilla’s leading scorer this season, netting seven league goals in 25 appearances, along with two goals and one assist in their last 10 matches. He has also provided three assists overall, just one behind the team’s top provider, Ruben Vargas.
Ejuke, on the other hand, has made contributions of one goal and one assist in 22 appearances this season. They will be looking to improve the club’s situation when they face Atletico Madrid at home on Saturday.
