Nollywood Veteran David Offor Passes On At 85

Nigeria’s entertainment industry is mourning the death of veteran actor David Offor, widely known for his role as Clarus in the classic Nigerian sitcom The New Masquerade.

Offor reportedly died at the age of 85. His passing marks the end of an era for many Nigerians who grew up watching the popular television comedy during the golden years of Nigerian TV in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In The New Masquerade, Clarus was the humorous houseboy who worked for the flamboyant and outspoken Chief Zebrudaya. His character was known for his constant misunderstandings, dramatic reactions, and comic exchanges with his boss and other members of the household. These moments made him one of the most memorable characters on the show.

The sitcom was created by veteran actor and broadcaster James Iroha and became one of Nigeria’s most loved television programmes. The show used humour to reflect everyday Nigerian life and family situations, making it relatable to viewers across the country.

Although David Offor later stepped away from the entertainment industry, his role as Clarus remained a lasting part of Nigerian television history. Over the years, the character continued to live on in reruns and in the memories of audiences who enjoyed the show.
