Electricity Workers protest Over Meter Hoarding

Electricity workers’ union on Thursday, picketed and shut down the headquarters of Ikeja Electric (IE) and some of its other offices within the Lagos metropolis, over what the union described as deliberate hoarding of prepaid meters meant for distribution to customers amid deteriorating power supply to consumers by the power company.
The union, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), also further queried the distribution company over its seeming inability to deliver steady power supply to Nigerians at corresponding rates of consumption, adding that the hoarding of prepaid meters had created opportunity to reap off consumers through estimated billing.

NUEE Secretary-General, Mr. Joe Ajaero, equally accused the Ikeja Electric of engaging in anti-labor activities, including its continued sacking of workers.
