An Ijaw youth leader, Comrade Johnmartins Ijere, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) ahead of its forthcoming national election.
Ijere made his intention known during a consultation visit to the IYC Eastern Zone Secretariat, where he was received by the Eastern Zone Chairman, Ambassador Datolu Sukubo, and members of the zonal executive over the weekend.
Addressing the executives, Ijere said he was seeking the office to bring his experience to bear in serving the foremost youth body of the Ijaw nation. He described his aspiration as a call to service, stressing his commitment and loyalty to the Ijaw struggle.
The aspirant noted that having grown through the ranks within the council, he understands the challenges facing the Ijaw people and is prepared to serve as a strong voice for justice and equity.
According to him, if elected, he will work to amplify the concerns and aspirations of the Ijaw nation while promoting unity and constructive engagement.
During the meeting, zonal leaders raised key issues affecting the Ijaw nation, which Ijere pledged to prioritize if given the mandate at the national level. The IYC national election is expected to hold later this year.
