Ikwerre Chairman Affirms Legitimacy of Odibola Properties

The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Wobodo, on Wednesday visited Unity Estate, Mbodo, Aluu, to assess ongoing activities and address allegations of land grabbing in the area.

Hon. Wobodo, accompanied by his principal appointees, said the visit was aimed at obtaining first-hand information following reports of encroachment and disputes surrounding the estate. He warned alleged land grabbers to desist from encroaching on lands within the council area.

Speaking on behalf of the Omuokachi family of Mbodo, Aluu, Hon. Ordu Okachi maintained that the land in question belongs to his family. He explained that under the leadership of the late Captain Elechi Amadi, portions of the land were sold in 2008 and 2009 to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the Resident Doctors Association of UNIPORT, and other individuals without dispute.

Okachi further clarified that the Omuokachi family does not share any boundary with the Rumuekini community, stating that its immediate neighbours are Omuahunwo and Omuchiolu communities, both in Aluu.

He also presented documents, including original survey plans and a court judgment delivered on December 18, 2025, in favour of the Omuokachi family against the Rumuekini community in a suit initially filed in 2013.

According to him, Odibola Properties is operating on the land at the invitation of the Omuokachi family, which granted the company power of attorney over both sold and unsold portions of the property.

After reviewing the documents, Wobodo expressed concern that some individuals were allegedly encroaching on land covered by a valid court judgment. He advised aggrieved parties to seek redress through lawful means rather than engage in actions that could amount to contempt of court.

The chairman reaffirmed his commitment to protecting communities within Ikwerre LGA and cautioned against the spread of what he described as false and malicious claims against Odibola Properties.
