Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has honored the long and successful career of Hon. Justice Obietonbara Owupele Daniel-Kalio. The Governor described the retiring Justice of the Court of Appeal as a true symbol of excellence and selfless service.

The tribute took place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, during a valedictory court session and book launch in Port Harcourt. The event marked the official retirement of Justice Kalio after years of distinguished service in the Nigerian judiciary.

Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu represented Governor Fubara at the ceremony. Delivering a heartfelt goodwill message, she explained that the jurist’s career exemplified a deep commitment to the rule of law.

Governor Fubara noted that Justice Kalio has left behind an enduring legacy of wisdom. Consequently, this wisdom has served as an inspiration to both the legal community and the wider society. The Governor stated that the occasion was a fitting way to celebrate a man who dedicated his life to the cause of justice.

“As he bows out of active judicial service, we celebrate a legacy of excellence and wisdom,” the Governor’s message read. Furthermore, he wished the retired justice continued fulfillment and robust health in this new chapter of his life.

The Governor also encouraged Justice Kalio to continue mentoring younger legal minds. He emphasized that the Justice’s experience remains a valuable asset to the nation. Additionally, he congratulated Justice Kalio’s wife, Dr. Blessing, and their children for their steadfast support throughout his demanding career.

The valedictory session drew a large crowd of high-profile dignitaries. These included prominent members of the judiciary, the Nigerian Bar Association, and top government officials. Their presence underscored the high regard in which Justice Kalio is held across the country.

Justice Kalio served with distinction in the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal. Throughout his tenure, he was known for his significant contributions to Nigeria’s appellate jurisprudence.
