Rivers Govt Assures Corps Members of Better NYSC Camp, Welfare

The Rivers State Government has assured that the remaining phase of the comprehensive renovation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in the state will be completed soon, alongside other ongoing development projects.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream One orientation course held at the NYSC camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and security of corps members posted to the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Samson Dede, encouraged corps members to serve with dedication and integrity at their various Places of Primary Assignment. He stressed the importance of discipline, teamwork, and positive contribution to host communities.

In his remarks, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, charged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme by promoting unity and peaceful coexistence. He urged them to reject tribalism, hate speech, and corruption, and instead lead by example wherever they are posted.

Oleghe also appealed to employers of corps members to provide a safe and supportive working environment that would enable them to perform effectively. He commended Governor Fubara for his continued support to the NYSC scheme and the development of the orientation camp in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the corps members, Ono Precious and Victor Ezeji expressed appreciation for the training received during the orientation course. They said the programme had equipped them with useful skills, discipline, and good morals, adding that they were ready to make meaningful contributions to communities across Rivers State.
