Amachree Writes Tinubu, Demands Removal of FCT Minister

A Nigerian political scientist and international business executive, Mr. Kio Amachree, has formally written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, calling for the immediate removal and investigation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, over allegations of political interference, abuse of office, and actions he claims threaten peace in Rivers State.

In a detailed petition dated February 8, 2026, and routed through the Chief of Staff to the President, Amachree accused the Federal Government of what he described as a “dangerous and provocative posture” in Rivers State. He warned that sustained political interference could destabilise the state and undermine peace across the wider Niger Delta.

Copies of the petition were also addressed to the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the chairmen of the EFCC and ICPC, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly.

Amachree identified himself as a non-partisan citizen with no political ambition, stating that his action was driven by concern for constitutional order, justice, and stability in Rivers State. He argued that Rivers State, as a key oil-producing region, should not be treated as a security flashpoint or militarised zone, adding that federal security efforts should instead prioritise terrorism and banditry in other parts of the country.

In the petition, he demanded that Wike be removed from office pending investigations, alleging that the minister’s continued role in the federal government represents a destabilising force in Rivers State. He also called on the EFCC and ICPC to carry out thorough investigations into allegations of corruption, diversion of public funds, unexplained wealth, and abuse of office, including a comprehensive audit of the minister’s assets, luxury vehicles, and properties both within and outside Nigeria.

Amachree further urged security agencies to probe a widely circulated audio recording allegedly linked to Wike, which he claimed contains threats of violence. He questioned why no public arrest or interrogation had followed the circulation of the recording on social media, warning that perceived selective justice could weaken public trust in the rule of law.

Beyond political concerns, the petitioner also sought justice over the alleged killing of his cousin, Miss Ibyami Amachree, reportedly by a soldier. He called for the identification of the officer involved, disclosure of the unit and chain of command, and prosecution where evidence supports it, arguing that unchecked impunity within the security services encourages future instability.

Amachree also referenced his family background, citing the contributions of his late father, Chief Godfrey Kio Jaja Amachree, QC, to Nigeria’s legal, diplomatic, and political history, including the creation of Rivers State. He mentioned his grandfather, Chief Sekin Amachree, as a Niger Delta freedom fighter, underscoring what he described as his family’s long-standing commitment to the Niger Delta and the Nigerian state.

He warned that failure to address the issues raised could attract international attention, stating that he would pursue lawful international advocacy if the petition was ignored. He cautioned that Nigeria’s global image could be damaged if another Niger Delta crisis emerged due to political manipulation and tolerance of corruption.

In his summary of demands, Amachree called for the removal and investigation of the FCT minister, an end to federal interference in Rivers State, a review of security deployments in the state, renewed focus on tackling terrorism and banditry in other regions, justice for alleged victims of security abuses, and the creation of a Niger Delta stability framework based on development and respect for local communities.

As of the time of this report, neither the Presidency nor the minister named in the petition had issued an official response.
