Ekpeye Monarch Urges Traditional Institutions to Promote Peace, Unity

Traditional institutions in Ekpeye land have been urged to strengthen peace, unity, and cultural preservation across communities to foster sustainable development.

The Ñyê-ïshï Èlé Úpātá Lôwétü and Ny’údū Úpātá III, His Majesty Dr. Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, made the call while hosting members of the Ekpeye Council at his palace, Ùdhò Ny’údū Úpātá, in Edéōhâ, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, on 7 February, 2026.

Dr. Otuwarikpo stressed that unity among Ekpeye people remains essential for growth and progress, noting that development thrives where people recognise their shared heritage and collective responsibility. He urged the people to uphold their cultural values and traditional institutions, emphasising that a strong sense of common origin would enhance stability and advancement.

The monarch highlighted the importance of collaboration among traditional rulers and community leaders, stating that Ekpeye’s strength lies in mutual respect, love, and a commitment to peace. According to him, sustained peace is critical to preventing conflicts and promoting development across the region.

Describing the meeting as significant, he advised traditional rulers to remain focused on serving their communities and working closely with established traditional authorities within their respective domains. He also cautioned against actions that could undermine recognised traditional stools, stressing the need for harmony within the institution.

Earlier, Ny’údū Michael described the visit as historic and expressed appreciation to the monarch for hosting the council. He commended Dr. Otuwarikpo’s commitment to the development of Úpātáland and the broader Ekpeye ethnic nation.

He explained that the delegation visited not only to identify with the cultural leadership of the Úpātá people but also to seek recognition and possible induction into the Traditional Rulers Council of Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas.

Ny’údū Michael added that the council is committed to working collaboratively for the overall development of Ekpeye land and prayed for the monarch’s continued peaceful reign as well as sustained progress across the region
