RSTV to Collaborate with EMR on Maritime and Oil & Gas Coverage

Rivers State Television (RSTV) has announced plans to partner with the Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR) to strengthen specialised media coverage of maritime activities and the oil and gas sector for audiences across the country.

The collaboration was revealed during a visit by EMR members to RSTV’s headquarters on Friday, February 6, 2026, where they met with the acting General Manager of the station, Paul Damgbor.

Speaking at the event, Damgbor highlighted the crucial role of quality content in promoting industry awareness and development.

“Content is the key to the development of the energy industry,” he said, adding that journalists must uphold professionalism when reporting on critical sectors of the economy.

Describing himself first as a journalist, Damgbor noted that RSTV, as the official voice of the Rivers State Government, is committed to repositioning the station to better communicate government programmes and policies while delivering impactful information to viewers.

He further urged EMR members to intensify coverage of issues affecting the Niger Delta, particularly those arising from oil and gas operations, emphasizing the region’s substantial contribution to Nigeria’s economy despite the environmental challenges faced by host communities.

EMR Chairman, Martin Giadom, commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for appointing Damgbor, describing him as an experienced journalist capable of transforming the station. Giadom also used the visit to announce EMR’s upcoming World Ocean Day and Award ceremony in June 2026, calling on industry stakeholders to support media organisations as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Additionally, BusinessDay Regional Editor and leader of the EMR delegation, Ignatius Chukwu, stressed the importance of strong content development for media growth.

“Content drives audience interest, and audience interest attracts sponsorship necessary for media growth,” he said, noting that EMR is made up of experienced maritime and energy journalists committed to credible reporting on developments in Nigeria’s maritime and oil and gas sectors.
