FG Enrols 250,000 Youths in Skills Training Programme

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, says about 250,000 young Nigerians are currently participating in the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme nationwide.

The minister disclosed this on Thursday during his induction as a member of the Epe Club at an event held in the Alausa area. The programme, which was launched with a target of enrolling one million youths, is aimed at boosting skills development and employment opportunities.

Alausa, who chaired the ceremony organised in honour of Epe Division political leader Shakiru Akanni, said the level of enrolment reflects the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to strengthening the education sector through practical skills acquisition.

According to him, technical and vocational skills are vital to national development, noting that the government has, within the last 14 months, put in place a structured training framework to attract young Nigerians. He explained that beneficiaries would be equipped with hands-on skills and supported with starter packs and access to low-interest loans upon completion of their training.

The minister also expressed appreciation to the Epe Club for the honour bestowed on him and for recognising Akanni, describing the gesture as one that would encourage positive values and inspire future leaders.

In his remarks, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said the country was making steady progress under the current administration and urged Nigerians, especially youths, to remain optimistic and take advantage of available opportunities.

Earlier, the President of the Epe Club, Olayemi Dada, said the club remains committed to supporting indigent students and health centres in the Epe Division. He noted that the event was organised to celebrate individuals who have contributed meaningfully to community development.

The event also featured a fundraising session for the construction of a proposed ultra-modern Epe Club building.
