Fubara Wins Consecutive Governor of the Year

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been named Governor of the Year 2025 by OurNigeria News Awards, securing the prestigious title for the second consecutive year. The announcement came during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, where organisers unveiled the full list of honourees for the 2025 edition.

Editorial Board Chairman Dr. AK Peters highlighted Fubara’s remarkable consistency and people-centered leadership, stating that despite persistent political challenges and distractions, the governor has stayed firmly focused on delivering governance, promoting peace, and prioritising the welfare of Rivers residents. “Governor Siminalayi Fubara was our Man of the Year 2024, and he has again emerged our Man of the Year 2025. He has demonstrated the consistency and the type of leadership we want to see in Nigeria,” Peters said.

The 2025 awards, themed “Providing a Podium for the Unsung Hero,” aim to celebrate individuals who have made substantial contributions to national development with limited public fanfare. The event is scheduled to take place in 2026.

Recipients were chosen through a thorough nationwide nomination process, followed by editorial screening and independent evaluation involving assessors from all 36 states. Only those whose impact stood out clearly during the 2024-2025 review period made the final list.

Among other notable awardees, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was recognised as Legislator of the Year for her consistent visibility and effective performance. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, earned Minister of the Year, while former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award in Democratic Leadership. Additional honours span politics, security, academia, media, and civil society.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described her recognition as a renewed call to serve, dedicating the honour to the resilient people of Kogi Central and reaffirming her commitment to inclusive legislation and accountable governance.

Dr. Peters thanked the media and various stakeholders for supporting the magazine’s mission of highlighting positive Nigerian stories, excellence, accountability, and patriotism.
