Why Rivers United Must Beat Power Dynamos In Uyo

After the conclusion of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, tagged Morocco 2025, attention now turns back to club football, where Africa’s leading sides continue their continental campaigns.

‎It will be pertinent to point out that CAF Champions League 2025/26 and the CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 resume last week Friday, 23rd January, and of course Match day 3 of the group stages was played across Africa.

‎As the CAF Confederation Cup continues this week with similar intensity, Rivers United are preparing to get their first win while hosting the Zambia. The pride of Rivers are set for a high-stakes encounter this Friday as they face Zambian side Power Dynamos FC in a crucial Match day 4 Group A fixture of the CAF Champions League.

‎Why must Rivers United win?

‎Football statistics have shown that the Port Harcourt based side have failed to secure even a point while facing the likes of RS Berkane of Morocco and then Pyramids FC of Egypt respectively. And then only managed to secure a point against Power Dynamos of Zambia.

‎From a critical analysis, chances are excellent that if Finidi George’s men lose at home against Power Dynamos at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, as they aim to convert home advantage into maximum points in their quest for progression from the group, their qualifications hope might take a nosedive, as they may not stand a chance of qualifying for the round of 16.

‎Speaking ahead of the return fixture, the Rivers United head coach Finidi George stressed the quality of teams competing at the group stage and warned that Power Dynamos will pose a serious challenge despite playing away from home.

‎The former Super Eagles stressed that ; “first of all, Rivers United will rest and then see how they can prepare properly for the game”. “Any team in the group stage of the CAF Champions League deserves to be there. They are good enough, so we expect an interesting game. We will see what happens on Saturday.”
