Rivers United Gets First Champions League Point

CAF Champions League: Rivers United Dig Deep to Earn First Group Point in Zambia

Rivers United showed grit and resilience on Saturday as they battled to a hard-earned 0–0 draw against Zambia’s Power Dynamos at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, grinding out their first point of the group stage in this season’s CAF Champions League.

It was a significant moment for Finidi George’s side, who arrived in Zambia under pressure after losing their opening two group matches to holders Pyramids FC of Egypt and RS Berkane of Morocco. On this night, however, Rivers United stood firm, refusing to be broken.

Much of their resistance was built on the brilliance of goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya, who produced a series of crucial first-half saves to keep Power Dynamos at bay as the hosts pushed relentlessly for a breakthrough. His composure and sharp reflexes proved vital in frustrating the Zambian side and keeping Rivers United in the contest.

At the other end, Rivers United struggled to create clear-cut chances of their own, failing to carve out any real goal-scoring opportunity in the matchday three encounter. Still, discipline, organisation, and determination carried them through to the final whistle.

The draw leaves Rivers United in third position in the group with one point from three matches. Attention now turns to the return fixture, where the Port Harcourt club will host Power Dynamos in a matchday four clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Sunday, with renewed hope and belief ahead of the crucial encounter.
