NiMet Predicts Three Days of Dusty, Stormy Weather Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of dust haze, sunshine and thunderstorms across different parts of the country from Thursday to Saturday. In its weather outlook released on Wednesday via X, the agency said parts of the northern region would experience slight dust haze on Thursday, particularly in Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Yelwa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi and Gombe states.

NiMet added that Borno, Yobe, Kaduna and Taraba states are expected to have sunny but hazy conditions throughout the forecast period. For the North Central region, the agency predicted predominantly sunny and hazy weather, with pockets of slight dust haze likely in parts of Nasarawa and Plateau states.

In the southern part of the country, NiMet projected generally sunny skies with a few cloud patches. However, morning thunderstorms and light rainfall are expected in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Bayelsa states, while later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rain may affect Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom states.

On Friday, the agency forecast continued sunny and hazy conditions across the northern and North Central regions. The southern states are expected to see mostly sunny weather with some cloud cover, alongside possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, Abia, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom states.

NiMet also predicted similar weather patterns on Saturday, with sunny and hazy skies prevailing in the northern and North Central regions. In the South, sunshine with cloud patches is expected, with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. The agency cautioned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised the public, especially people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.

It also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. Residents were encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s regular weather bulletins and official website.
