Duncan Mighty Thrills Fubara

The 2025 Eneka Day Celebration reached a fever pitch on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, as the “Port Harcourt First Son,” Duncan Mighty, delivered a high-energy performance that saw Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other top dignitaries abandon their seats in a rare display of public jubilation. The event, held at the community’s primary field in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, served as a potent blend of cultural revival and political solidarity under the theme, “Unifying Our Strength for Progress.”

The festivities began with traditional rites and addresses from community leaders, most notably Senator John Azuta-Mbata, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and a prominent son of Eneka. Senator Mbata used the platform to reaffirm the community’s unwavering support for the Fubara administration, pointedly stating that the state has “only one governor” and urging residents to ignore distractions from opposing political camps. This sentiment was echoed by Governor Fubara, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. In a sobering yet hopeful speech, the Governor described Rivers State as being at a “critical crossroads,” emphasizing that development can only be sustained through a unified resolve.

However, the atmosphere shifted from formal to festive when Duncan Mighty took the stage. Performing a medley of his classic hits and a specially composed tribute to the resilience of the Rivers people, the musician bridged the gap between the executive gallery and the massive crowd. Governor Fubara, known for his typically reserved demeanor, was seen visibly moved by the performance, at one point joining the singer in a brief rhythmic exchange that sent the Eneka youth into a frenzy.

As the event concluded, the sense of optimism in Eneka was undeniable. For the residents, the day was a rare opportunity to see their Governor in a relaxed, humanized light, proving that even in a state at a crossroads, music and culture remain the most effective tools for unification and reconciliation.
