Super Eagles Finally Receive Honours

The moment we’ve been waiting for, has finally been unveiled before our eyes, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally fulfilled his promise to reward the Super Eagles with houses and land following their performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

‎The Nation Football body known as NFF confirmed in the late hours of Monday that players of the national team have received certificates for the housing units and plots of land promised by President Bola Tinubu

‎As per the Nigerian Football Federation, (NFF), all the necessary documents were presented to the players at the Super Eagles’ camp in Fez, Morocco.

‎Though the Super Eagles of Nigeria finished the competition as runners-up, which was held in Côte d’Ivoire and concluded in 2024, after losing 2–1 to the host nation in the final.

‎Despite failing to clinch the AFCON trophy, it was claimed that after the boys returned from the competition, the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu hosted the them at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he honoured each member of the squad with the national award of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

‎Notwithstanding, it was said that at the reception hall, the President also announced the allocation of a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory and a housing unit to every player, in recognition of their efforts and commitment at the continental tournament.

‎Also, the retired but not tired former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has received the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic certificate from President Bola Tinubu, after Monday’s conferment

‎The Saudi Arabian based defender announced the receipt of the official certificate on X on Tuesday, describing it as a proud moment for him and his family.

‎In his post, he said; “I am honoured and grateful to His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (@officialABAT), for conferring on me the MFR national honour.

‎“I have been sent the official certificate today following the announcement last night. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family to receive this recognition,” he wrote.
