Menstrual Hygiene and Empowerment: ‘Pad Her Project’ Hits Home

Today, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco, Club of Rumuomasi, Club of Spring Gardens and Rotary Club of Groningen, collaborated on a impactful ‘Pad Her Project’ at two HighCast International Academy, Mbuoba and Government Girls Secondary Schools, Rumueme, both in Port Harcourt. The event saw the distribution of reusable pads, accompanied by educational sessions on their use, aiming to empower young girls with menstrual hygiene knowledge.

President of Port Harcourt Eco, Sele May Aso PHD, emphasized dignity and encouraged students to embrace their periods without shame, highlighting her passion for girl child empowerment. Her inspiring words resonated with the students, sparking meaningful conversations.

Her colleagues also spoke on the importance of being in such an organisation and the soundness that it yields. The students were taught about their menstrual circle and how to navigate them, effortlessly basking in their femininity.

Guest speaker and 4X Olympian, Madame Reina-Flor Okori from the Netherlands, shared her remarkable journey of pursuing dreams through sports, career growth, and life goals. She credited her teacher for discovering her potential and helping her achieve success, serving as a testament to the power of support and mentorship.

The event was a huge success, with students beaming with joy, actively participating in interactive sessions, taking pictures, getting autographs, and asking insightful questions to Madame Reina. The enthusiasm and gratitude displayed by the students underscored the significance of such initiatives in shaping their futures.

The ‘Pad Her Project’ not only addressed menstrual hygiene but also inspired young minds to chase their dreams fearlessly.
