In recognition of his role in strengthening democracy, and his efforts in promoting peace and good governance across Africa, Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, has awarded an honorary doctorate to former President Goodluck Jonathan during its 13th convocation ceremony.

Speaking at the event on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo, said Jonathan was selected for the honour in recognition of his statesmanship, noting that Jonathan’s leadership and post-presidency engagements serve as an inspiration to emerging African leaders.

Dogo praised the former president’s continued influence, emphasizing that the university values individuals who embody integrity, service, and dedication to national progress.

Highlighting the institution’s growing global credibility, the VC announced that qualifications from Nile University are now accepted by the UK General Medical Council, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, and prominent international cybersecurity bodies.

He added that the university remained a key member of Honoris United Universities, Africa’s largest private higher education network spanning 16 institutions across 10 countries.

According to him, the Honoris philosophy of “Education for Impact” aligns with Nile University’s mission to produce graduates equipped with the practical skills needed for the modern workforce.
