Asari-Toru Council Chair Renovates Abandoned NYSC Lodge

Corps Members serving in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, can now heave a sigh of relief as their central Corps Lodge, which had been abandoned for years due to infrastructural decay, is currently undergoing a massive renovation.

The project, initiated by the chairman of the LGA, Hon. George Onogiyeofori, aims to restore the facility and provide corps members with a more comfortable and conducive living environment.

The renovation work covers a wide range of improvements, including the replacement of broken toilet seats, shower pipes, and kitchen sinks; general plumbing works; installation of a 5,000-litre capacity water tank for better water storage; reroofing of leaking areas; new PVC ceiling; replacement of damaged doors; electrical rewiring; and tiling.

Onogiyeofori, who described corps members as elite youths and leaders of tomorrow, expressed deep concern over the previous state of the lodge, which he deemed “unfit for human habitation.” According to him, his administration embarked on the project out of genuine concern for the welfare and well-being of corps members, adding that the renovation will give them “a sense of relief and a new lease of life.”

Meanwhile, in a bid to improve access to healthcare among residents of Emohua Local Government Area, the corps medical CDS group has conducted a two-day free medical outreach at the Elibrada Modern Market. The outreach featured free health screenings, including tests for high blood pressure, blood sugar levels, malaria, cholesterol, and eye checks.

Pregnant and nursing mothers were also sensitized on healthy lifestyle practices to promote their well-being and that of their families. At the end of the program, free drugs were dispensed to patients who received medical attention.
