Eleme Chair Seeks Naval Recruitment Opportunities For Youths

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Obarilomate Ollor, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to sustain peace, enhance security, and promote development across Eleme and its environs.

Ollor made this known on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, during a familiarisation visit to the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS), Onne, where he was received by the Commandant, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji. In his remarks, the chairman highlighted his administration’s deliberate efforts to maintain cordial relationships with security agencies, particularly the Navy, acknowledging their critical role in safeguarding lives, property, and national integrity.

“Our visit is aimed at fostering unity and a stronger bond between the Navy, our administration, and the people of Eleme. “We value the presence of such an experienced senior officer here, it gives us confidence that our community is in safe hands.” He emphasized the need for greater collaboration between the Navy and the council on community development initiatives that would benefit host communities and reinforce mutual trust.

He also raised concerns over the resurgence of illegal activities around the demolished trailer park in Ebubu, pledging decisive action. “We will not allow that area to revert to a den of crime. Plans are underway to establish a security post there to ensure constant surveillance. “The only structure that will remain is the mosque, no commercial activities will be permitted.” Ollor further expressed interest in attending the forthcoming Passing Out Parade (POP) of the training school and appealed for support in creating Navy recruitment opportunities for Eleme youths.

“It is time our young people take part in national service through the Navy. We are ready to collaborate and provide all necessary support to help our youths benefit from this institution and stay away from crime,” he added. In his response, Rear Admiral Victor D. Choji commended the Eleme chair for what he described as his proactive leadership and keen understanding of the security landscape. “You have spoken like a true leader, not just a politician. You have correctly identified the key threats, and we appreciate your commitment to peace and order,” the commandant said.

He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Eleme Local Government to address emerging security challenges. The commandant also noted that the NNBTS Medical Centre serves numerous residents of surrounding communities and expressed readiness to train and recruit interested Eleme youths. The visit concluded with a guided tour of several key facilities currently under construction within the training school.
