Nigeria will commence its pursuit of one of the available spots to represent Africa at the Intercontinental playoff on November 13, facing Gabon in their opening match.
The victor of this match will compete against the winner of the other semi-final between Cameroon and Congo Dr in the final. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has yet to publicly disclose the list of players for the mini-tournament.
“Chelle has already submitted the list, but he has not granted the NFF permission to release it to the public yet. I believe he is assessing and awaiting fitness updates on certain players before finalizing his selection,” stated a NFF official.
“There is also discussion regarding an expanded squad of 25 players for the tournament, as opposed to the usual 22 or 23. Once Chelle gives the green light, it will be announced publicly.”
A representative from the NFF confirmed that preparations commenced immediately following Nigeria’s final Group C qualifier against the Benin Republic, highlighting the federation’s commitment to securing a World Cup berth.
“The NFF initiated preparations for the playoff right after the last Group C match due to its significance,” the source remarked.
The Super Eagles are set to gather in Morocco on November 9, while an advance team will arrive earlier to finalize logistical arrangements.
“All players will travel directly to Morocco, with only the coach and backroom staff departing from Nigeria,” the NFF official concluded.
