NCDMB Mediates Peace Talks Between Oando Energy, Southern Ijaw Host Communities

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has convened a mediation meeting between Oando Energy Resources and representatives of Okiama and Fierebaghama communities in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The meeting, held at the Nigerian Content Tower in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, October 29 2025, followed a petition submitted by the two communities on September 17, 2025, accusing the company of neglect and alleged breach of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010.

In response to the petition, NCDMB initiated the dialogue to promote mutual understanding and ensure an amicable settlement between Oando Energy Resources and its host communities.

Chairing the session, the General Manager of Zonal Coordination, Mr Ifeanyi Okoha, reaffirmed the Board’s dedication to fostering collaboration and peaceful coexistence between oil firms and host communities through constructive engagement and strict adherence to the NOGICD Act.

In its response, Oando Energy Resources expressed readiness to work closely with the host communities and the Board to resolve all pending issues.

Other NCDMB officials present included Mr Dallas Asangolo, Manager, Zonal Coordination; Mr Adebayo Joseph, Senior Manager, Projects; and several officers from the Zonal Coordination Directorate.

The Board emphasised that mediation and partnership remain key tools for promoting peace and sustainable development in oil-producing communities.
