As part of efforts to tackle flooding and improve sanitation, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr Gift Worlu, has inspected the ongoing desilting of drainages around the council premises.
During the inspection on Monday, October 20, 2025, Worlu urged residents to adhere to the operation to keep the Obio/Akpor clean initiative.
The effort forms part of the wider “Operation Keep Obio/Akpor Clean” campaign, spearheaded by the Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Committee, Chief Chijioke Kennedy Akaninwa.
Worlu expressed concern over the continued indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and along walkways, which he said was a major contributor to recurring flooding.

Worlu further directed the environmental sanitation committee chairman to demolish all unauthorised structures defacing the council premises.
Reiterating the council’s commitment to environmental sustainability, he called on the general public to fully support the “Operation Keep Obio/Akpor Clean” initiative.
“When we all play our part, we can build a safer, cleaner, and more resilient community,” he said.
This initiative underscores the local government’s commitment to proactive environmental management and flood prevention.
