Panic erupted in the Woji area of Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 14th of October 2025 after a moving train plowed into several vehicles that were stuck on its tracks due to a severe traffic congestion. The dramatic incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, could have been far worse, as officials confirmed no fatalities or serious injuries were reported.
According to eyewitness accounts, the collision occurred during the peak afternoon traffic hour. A long queue of vehicles, caught in an extensive gridlock, extended onto the active railway line. With no room to maneuver, motorists were trapped on the tracks as the train approached.
“It was a terrifying scene,” said one eyewitness who identified himself as Mr. Chukwu. “The traffic was completely stationary, and some of us were stuck right on the rails. We heard the train horn blaring, but there was absolutely nowhere to go. People abandoned their cars and ran for safety just seconds before the impact.”
The oncoming train, unable to stop in time, slammed into the stranded vehicles. The sound of the crash, combined with the screeching of the train’s brakes, caused widespread alarm, drawing crowds of onlookers and creating further disruption in the area.
While the collision resulted in significant damage to the involved vehicles, authorities have expressed relief that the incident did not claim any lives. The primary consequences were massive traffic disruption and the palpable fear experienced by commuters and residents.
