Nigeria at 65: Gov. Fubara Calls for Unity, Peace

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity as the nation marks its 65th Independence anniversary.

The Governor, represented by Alhaji Abdurrazaq Diepriye, made the call on Friday during a Juma’at service held at the Rivers State Central Mosque, Port Harcourt, where prayers were offered for the progress of the state and country.

“Allah has brought us this far. Without peace, we cannot have progress and economic development. I call on all citizens, irrespective of creed or tribe, to remain patriotic,” he said.

Governor Fubara also thanked President Bola Tinubu for restoring peace in Rivers State and commended security agencies for their efforts in sustaining unity and stability in the state and across Nigeria.

In his sermon, Imam Ibrahim Yaloo, Chief Imam of the Rivers State Central Mosque, urged Muslim faithful to always uphold truth, noting that those who obey Allah are guided to good deeds and forgiveness.

Prayers were offered for peace and prosperity in Rivers State and Nigeria.

Other events lined up to mark the 65th Independence anniversary in the state include an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 28, and a parade ceremony on Wednesday, October 1.
