Rivers Women Celebrate Return of Democracy, Reinstatement of Fubara

Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM on Thursday staged a thanksgiving march in Port Harcourt to celebrate what they described as the restoration of peace and democracy in Rivers State.

Clad in green attire, the women converged on the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt, where they held prayers before moving through major streets in jubilation over the lifting of the state of emergency and the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly after six months of suspension.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary Ebele Ngelale and Public Relation Officer Comrade Glory Sunday of the group, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and political leaders who worked towards restoring democratic governance in the state.

They also commended Rivers people for their resilience and support during the period of emergency rule.

The women described the reinstatement of the elected institutions as a glorious new dawn for Rivers State, declaring that God’s covenant of peace had been restored. They emphasized their commitment to sustained prayers for reconciliation, peace, and prosperity in the state and the country at large.

The thanksgiving march, which drew participants from all 23 local government areas, was marked by chants of hope, unity, and renewal. The women expressed confidence that Rivers State has entered a season of stability and growth, with greater opportunities for progress.
