Reactions Trail Fubara’s Return

Siminalayi Fubara

Reactions have begun trailing the declaration of the end of the state of emergency in Rivers State and the reinstatement of the state Governor, Siminilayi Fubara, his deputy and members of the state assembly.

The return of Governor Fubara after a six-month suspension is one that was awaited with mixed reactions by many residents. A political affairs analyst, Mr Jackson Lekan Ojo, in his reaction, commended the people of Rivers State for maintaining peace in the face of great provocation.

‎According to him, the emergency rule took the state backwards politically and economically. The Labour Party deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election in Rivers State, Mr Sam Kinane, decried the imposition of the emergency rule in the first place, saying that the return of the governor will not really improve the battered image of democracy in the state.

‎In the same vein, a former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Sokonte Davis, insisted that for the return of the elected governor to be cheering news, the terms and conditions for his return should be made known to Rivers people.

‎On his part, a legal practitioner, Mr Courage Nsirimovu, called on the governor to put behind him all that happened in the past and work to correct the mistakes caused by the emergency rule

‎Although Governor Siminilayi Fubara is returning to the government house in Rivers State, some residents believe that his return may be ceremonial, while others believe that the elected governor will work to return the state to its glorious days.
