Peter Obi Celebrates Chimamanda on Her Birthday

Labour Party presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has joined voices across the world in celebrating Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on her birthday.

In a goodwill message shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, September 14, Obi hailed Adichie as a “true literary giant” whose writings have enriched global literature while inspiring new generations of storytellers.

“Chimamanda has blossomed into a true literary giant, whose writings enrich global literature while uplifting humanity. She has used her extraordinary gift to tell our stories with dignity and raise new generations of storytellers,” Obi stated.

The former governor commended Adichie’s ability to employ fiction and essays not only as art but also as tools for truth, transformation, and empowerment. According to him, her works, literary workshops, and lectures continue to challenge young people to dream boldly and think critically.

Obi also recalled the author’s humility and enduring ties to her homeland, particularly her symbolic return to her alma mater to honour her teachers. “In that simple yet profound act, she reminded us all that the journey forward is strongest when anchored in gratitude to the past,” he said.

Describing Adichie as “sister and beacon of inspiration to millions,” Obi prayed for her continued strength, wisdom, and joy, adding: “May her light shine even brighter for Nigeria and the world.”

Adichie, regarded as one of Africa’s most celebrated literary voices, is the author of award-winning novels including Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun, and Americanah. Her works have earned her global acclaim and cemented her place as one of the defining figures in contemporary literature.
